Just caught the news about Thailand swinging the pendulum hard, proposing to reclassify the plant as a narcotic, strictly limiting it to licensed medical use. I’ve walked this road enough times to know that when governments tighten the loop around ‘medical only,’ they often choke the life out of true craft cultivation and genetic diversity. The plant remains the same; the rules are what change. But the wisdom earned in a hundred seasons doesn't disappear just because a license becomes necessary. This raises a core question for those of us who grew up with the plant: Does the 'medical' label always necessitate high regulation, or does it just serve as a political compromise? The best medicine I’ve ever seen came from careful, experienced hands, not sterile bureaucracy.
